Luna has been a blessing since day one. The delivery was slightly rough, and she needed to be removed with forceps due to an unknown time of water breakage. She was removed and not breathing it took the nurses and doctors a few minutes to give her the breath of life. A few days later a NICU nurse noticed that her arm was not functioning properly. This is very common in forceps delivery. Luna began physical therapy for her arm the second week of her life. Other than this arm Luna showed signs of being a perfectly healthy and functioning baby. she was always happy and rarely cried. I would challenge her to use her arm and hit toys with it.
I encouraged her to hold items in that hand. We did lots of hand and arm awareness activities. Therapies were going great.
November 2016 – Birth.
At 3 days old she had her first makeshift arm sling. Within her first month of life she had her first thumb splint. (both pictured below)
May 26, 2017 – Lunas first recoded Infantile Spasm – this is a type of seizure disorder.
May 26, 2017- June 3, 2017 - First trip to hospital for Infantile Spasms. At this time Luna had her first EEG and MRI. After the MRI the doctors revealed that Luna had a stroke sometimes during the labor and delivery process. This is what caused the Spasms. They prescribed 2 different medications. After this we went home a few days later the spasms came back. The Doctors seemed to think it would take a bit longer for the meds to work. During the time of June 3, 2017- June 13, 2017 the spasms began to increase.
